NADAC
The sanctioning organization under whose rules this trial was conducted.
Level
Novice: Least-experienced level. Open: Intermediate. Elite: Top level in NADAC.
Vet?
Whether competing at lower height and slower times as a Veteran. Puts you in a different title track.
Place
Did we come in first? Good for pretty ribbons and ego boosting but not for earning titles.
Dog qty
How many other dogs competing at this Level, in this Class, at the same height jumps as my dog. (Jake jumped 16" at this trial; Tika jumped 24", which is the highest in NADAC.)
Elim?
Did we eliminate out of this round? Can earn an E by leaving the course, fouling the ring, training in the ring (which I did with Jake in one round--when he leaped over the dogwalk's down contact, earning faults, I took him back and made him do it again. We've been missing a lot of qualifying scores because of him missing those dogwalk contacts, and he does them beautifully in class, and NADAC allows you to train in the ring without the judge bashing your head in.
Qual?
Did we earn a qualifying score towards our titles? This is the gold standard--placements are nice, but these are what you want. Not always easy to get. To qualify, the dog must be under course time and have a clean run (no course faults).
Time
How many seconds we took to complete the course.
Under course time
Must be under the standard calculated course time to hope to qualify. If you're over that, you get time faults.
Course faults
Popping contacts. Knocking bars. Off courses. Stuff like that.
Time faults
See Time
Title
Did this run complete the required Q runs for a new title?
Yards per second
A nifty number for my own use in evaluating my dogs' performance.
Gamble Op
Points earned during opening of gamblers course. Big dogs (e.g., Tika) have 40 seconds. Little dogs (like Jake) have 45 seconds. Jumps are worth 1 point, tunnels 3, contact obstacles and weaves 5. To hope to Qualify in Gamblers, novice dogs must have at least 20 opening pts, Open must have 24, Elite must have 28
Gmbl
To actually Q in gamblers, must have sufficient opening points AND earn at least 20 points in the Gamble. (Not even going to try to explain that at the moment.) This is the hard part.
